[Satellite Today 06-03-09] Afcom Satellite Networks completed construction of its next-generation C-band satellite gateway ground station in Lagos, Nigeria, the company announced June 2.
    The C-band gateway, which is networked with Intelsat satellites, provides services suited for the banking, oil and gas industries as well as other multi-national companies throughout Nigeria and West Africa.
    Afcom will increase its capabilities over the next couple of month by offering broadband Internet and VSAT services to its customers, the company said.  
    “Nigeria’s expanding economy, and a corresponding dependence on sophisticated wireless technology requires organizations to have exceptional reliability and high service levels from their VSAT providers in order to compete in the world,” Bola Awobamise, chairman of Afcom, said in a statement.
