[Satellite Today 03-20-09] IPStar Co., subsidiary of Thaicom, has received the necessary licenses from the Japanese government to bring satellite broadband services to Japan, the Thai satellite operator announced March. 19.
IPStar will be allowed to operate it gateway in Japan and provide IPStar service in the country beginning in April. The construction of the gateway, located about 60 kilometers from downtown Tokyo, has been completed.
“We are very delighted to be granted all necessary licenses from the Japanese authorities in order to operate the IPStar Japan gateway and provide services. There are approximately 800,000 households in Japan without broadband access, of which we are targeting approximately 200,000 IPStars users throughout the coming years. Thaicom Chairman Dumrong Kasemset said in a statement.
