[Satellite Today 02-17-09] Solaris Mobile is joining forces with Nagravision as it looks to make an impact in the mobile TV and mobile broadband markets across Europe, the companies announced Feb. 16.
The two companies intended to develop a harmonized ecosystem to optimize the delivery of mobile TV and broadband services.
Solaris Mobile’s services is aimed primarily at broadcasters, telco operators, the automotive industry and data and communication providers and soon will operate in the new dedicated spectrum S-band which is located near the UMTS frequencies reserved for mobile satellite services. With this S-band payload using the DVB-SH (satellite services to handhelds) hybrid satellite/terrestrial standard, Solaris Mobile can provide a network offering seamless coverage across Europe.
The Nagra Mobile TV content and service protection platform already provides all the functions needed to protect the broadcasted services and content in DVB-SH. It is available today as an extension to existing Nagravision conditional access systems or as a standalone system.
