[Satellite Today 08-07-08] Hughes recorded revenues of $265.6 million in the 2008 second quarter, a 13 percent increase over the same period a year ago, the company announced Aug. 6.
    Revenue from international VSAT business grew 43 percent to $65 million. New consumer activations increased 21 percent, while net consumer adds jumped 32 percent.
    Hughes posted net income of $1.8 million for the 2008 second quarter, compared to a profit $9.6 million in the 2007 second quarter.
    "We also set a second quarter record for new orders by booking new orders of $333 million in the second quarter of 2008, including significant orders from BP, Blockbuster, Social Security Administration and American General Finance in our North America enterprise business, Pradman Kaul, president and CEO of Hughes said in a statement. “Our international enterprise business received significant orders from the African Development Bank, Micro Tech, PT Abhimata, UNIP, Telemar Brazil, the Spanish lottery service provider STL, Telefonica and Afsat. Our mobile satellite business was awarded a significant order for over $100 million by Globalstar."
