Voyager Space has closed on its acquisition of a majority stake in Space Micro, which engineers satellite communications, digital, and electro-optic systems. The acquisition was first announced in November, and financial terms have not been disclosed.

Space Micro is based in San Diego and offers a 100-Gbps laser communications terminal which has been on orbit for over a year. The company is also developing a digital Radio Frequency (RF)-to-optical and optical-to-RF signal converter. Spac Micro has multiple active contracts and has provided technology for NASA and the U.S. Department of Defense.

Voyager said in a Jan. 5 release that it will provide strategic operations support to advance Space Micro’s technology for civil, commercial, and defense customers.

“As we look at a continuously developing and evolving satellite market, Voyager makes a perfect partner to support our technology capabilities and business operations,” said Space Micro Co-Founder and Chairman David Strobel. “Our teams are ready to hit the ground running to meet customer needs and market demand.”

Voyager is working to create a vertically integrated space company, and has made a spree of acquisitions since 2020, including Nanoracks parent company, Valley Tech Systems, The Launch Company, Altius Space Machines, and Pioneer Astronautics. Claw Mowry, Blue Origin’s former vice president of sales, recently joined the company as chief revenue officer.
