Telefónica Agrees to Distribute Viasat Enterprise Internet Service in Brazil

Telefónica Global Solutions (TGS) will now distribute Viasat‘s high-speed satellite internet services to enterprise customers in Brazil after the two companies entered into a new strategic partnership agreement.

Viasat announced Thursday that Telefónica will distribute bandwidth from the Telebras SGDC-1 satellite network. The operator added that it plans to eventually augment the SDGC-1 network with service from its next-generation satellite constellation, ViaSat-3.

Viasat launched residential internet service in Brazil last year. The operator is currently scheduled to launch the first of three ViaSat-3 systems satellites designated for the Americas in 2022.

“By working with TGS, we can reach more locations, target a more diverse customer base, and provide a way to bring digital inclusion to more businesses nationwide,” Leandro Gaunszer, managing director of Viasat Brazil, said in the announcement.

TGS is a subsidiary of Telefónica that manages the parent company’s international wholesale, global roaming, multinational, and U.S.-based businesses. The company has numerous satellite backhaul and connectivity agreements in place with companies ranging from Gilat to Facebook.
