SSL Picks GMV for Bank Rakyat Indonesia’s BRIsat Control Center

[Via Satellite 07-10-2015] Space Systems Loral (SSL) has selected GMV to install the control center for Bank Rakyat Indonesia’s (BRI), upcoming satellite, BRIsat. SSL is building the satellite on its SSL 1300 platform, which — equipped with C- and Ku-band transponders — will enable communications across BRI’s 11,000 branches throughout the Indonesian archipelago.

GMV has worked with SSL 1300-based satellites several times in recent years. The company will develop and install BRIsat’s control center, including the real-time telemetry and command processing system based on its Hifly product, plus the flight dynamics system based on focus suite and the ground segment control and monitoring system.

“GMV will provide SSL with totally integrated systems ensuring maximum automation of satellite operations, from orbit insertion right up to the end of its useful life in about 15 years’ time,” said Miguel Angel Molina, director of business development and programs at GMV Aerospace.

Arianespace is the launch provider for BRIsat, which is slated for a 2016 mission atop an Ariane 5 rocket from Europe’s Spaceport in Kourou, French Guiana. From 150.5 degrees east, the satellite is designed to deliver telecommunications services over regions of Indonesia, Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) countries, Northeast Asia, some Pacific areas, and Western Australia. BRI is Indonesia’s oldest and biggest bank, and the first bank in the world to launch a communications satellite.
