[Satellite Today 10-14-09] Australian telco Optus has announced that its Optus D3 satellite is operational.

            Launched in August, Optus D3 is located at 156 degrees East and will complement Optus’ four existing satellites providing services across Australia, New Zealand and Antarctica. The Optus D3 satellite provides an in-orbit redundancy capability and marks the first use of the Broadcast Satellite Service spectrum in Australia, Optus said.

            “Not only will D3 provide new business opportunities for Optus, it will also allow our customers to provide new and advanced digital services to their customers across Australia and New Zealand,” Vicki Brady, managing director of Optus Wholesale and Satellite, said in a statement.
