[Satellite Today 10-14-09] Comtech AeroAstro Inc., a subisidary of Comtech Telecommunications has been awarded a contract from the U.S. Air Force Research Laboratory for the development of Advanced Plug and Play Technologies

for space missions, Comtech announced Oct. 13.

            Under an initial task order valued at $500,000, Comtech AeroAstro will develop small satellites and payloads that they can be assembled and launched in a matter of days. The order was made under an indefinite delivery/indefinite quantity contract that carries a maximum value of $200 million over five years.

            "This award represents tangible evidence that our investment in our microsatellite product line is resulting in new contract awards and growth opportunities,” Fred Kornberg, president and CEO of Comtech Telecommunications, said in a statement. “We continue to solidify our position as a source for innovative mission solutions, as the U.S. government looks for lower-cost alternatives to achieving their goals in space."

            The project is sponsored by the Air Force Research Laboratory’s Space VehiclesDirectorate, Kirtland Air Force Base, N.M.
