Mexico’s telecommunications regulator, Federal Commission of Telecommunications (Cofetel), has approved the rules for a Ka-band satellite license auction, the regulator announced Feb. 21.

This is Cofetel’s second attempt to auction a license for the slot at 109.2° West. The first attempt was abandoned in October after the regulator could not attract any companies willing to meet the $13.1 million minimum. The rules for the new auction will be available from Feb. 27 to March 1.

Cofetel needs to have the slot in use by March 5, 2008 or forfeit Mexico’s rights, the regulator said.
