Radio e Televisao de Portugal (RTP) signed a deal with Intelsat to launch a channel on Intelsat’s IA-8 satellite to supply the direct-to-home channel in Brazil.

Intelsat will provide RTP with a solution that includes signal turnaround, multiplexing and space segment. Brazilian broadcaster Tecsat will use its teleport in Brazil to downlink RTP’s Portuguese programming from the IS-805 satellite. The signal will be multiplexed and uplinked to IA-8’s Ku-band beam where reception can be received in antennas as small as 90 centimeters.

Separately, Intelsat signed a contract with Station 53 to supply Voice over Internet Protocol, data and Internet service for Station 53 customers’ yachts. Station 53 will use Intelsat’s Globalconnex managed network to provide high-speed broadband Internet access to luxury yachts sailing in the Caribbean and the Mediterranean seas.

Station 53 will use Intelsat’s IS-905 satellite located at 335.5 degrees E to provide the service.
