Trimble acquired and tracked the signal from Europe’s Galileo test satellite using a prototype receiver that can also receive signals from the U.S. GPS and Russia’s Glonass satellite navigation systems, Trimble announced July 21.

The Galileo test signal is being broadcast by the Galileo In Orbit Validation Elements-A satellite, which was launched in late 2005 and began operations in January. The first four satellites in the Galileo constellation are scheduled to be placed into orbit in 2008.

Trimble also announced its Zephyr Geodetic 2 antenna is compatible with all GPS and Russia’s Glonass frequencies as well as Galileo signals.
