Members of SPATEA (Spar Professional and Allied Technical Employee’s Association) have returned to work at MDA Space Missions, MacDonald Dettwiler and Associates Ltd. (MDA) announced July 19.

Engineers went on strike in June after working without a contract since Dec. 31. The strike ended when the company and SPATEA reached a three-year collective agreement.

MDA Space Missions, based in Brampton, Ontario, was acquired from Spar Aerospace in 1999 and previously was known as MD Robotics. The division manufactured the Canadarm used on NASA’s space shuttle and the Mobile Servicing System on the International Space Station.

Separately, MDA received an order for $3.4 million to provide Radarsat-1 imagery to an unnamed U.S. government agency throughout the next 12 months, the company announced. The order was issued under an existing indefinite delivery/indefinite quantity contract.
