Transformational Space Corp. (T/Space) added Ball Aerospace & Technologies Corp. and Near Earth LLC to its team competing to build a follow-on vehicle to the space shuttle, T/Space announced June 28.

T/Space is competing for a $500 million contract from NASA to develop a vehicle that would ferry cargo and personnel to the international space station. NASA will award at least one contract, and possibly more, to develop commercial services and is in talks with T/Space about a possible contract under NASA’s commercial orbital transportation system initiative, the company said.

Ball Aerospace will design and produce the avionics for the space vehicle, while Near Earth will be the company’s investment banker.

T/Space also added Lon Levin, who cofounded XM Satellite Radio and helped launch Mobile Satellite Ventures, to its senior management team to focus on capital and corporate strategies.
