ATK received contracts from Northrop Grumman to provide additional components and subsystems for NASA‘s James Webb Space Telescope, ATK announced May 30.

ATK will provide graphite fiber structures to support the science instrument optical bench and the 6.3-meter diameter primary mirror. The company also provides thermal testing for composite structures. ATK’s work on the telescope now is valued at more than $65 million, with a backlog extending into 2009.

Northrop Grumman is the prime contractor for the telescope, which is scheduled to be launched in 2013.
