Digital+, the Spanish direct-to-home provider, ended the first quarter of 2006 with nearly 2 million pay-TV subscribers. The operator announced that it had seen a net increase of 25,000 subscribers in the quarter, which ended March 31.

“After unifying pay-TV activities in Digital+ during 2005, 2006 has started with a brand new commercial offer that has already helped us resume subscriber growth this quarter,” Javier Diez de Polanco, CEO of Sogecable, which owns Digital+.

The operator hopes enhanced premium coverage will lead to strong subscriber growth in the next few quarters. Digital+ will have full coverage of World Cup matches in June and enhanced Champions League broadcast rights beginning in September.
