MacDonald Dettwiler and Associates Ltd. (MDA) received a contract from Defence Research and Development Canada-Ottawa to develop technology that extracts information about moving objects from satellite radar imagery, MDA announced Jan. 26.

Under the contract, MDA will develop and demonstrate its concept to Canadian military forces once Radarsat-2 is launched in December. The satellite is capable of collecting imagery regardless of weather conditions or time of day.

The value of the contract was not disclosed.
