U.K. satellite pay-TV operator BSkyB has teamed up with Vodafone to launch Sky Mobile TV to deliver broadcast video services to Vodafone mobile phone customers.

There will be two Sky Mobile TV packages offering a combined total of 19 mobile channels including Sky One, Discovery, MTV, History Channel and the Biography Channel. Some channels will be broadcast “as live,” while others will be dedicated “made-for-mobile” channels featuring regularly updated blocks of programming.

The service will be accessible by all Vodafone third-generation handsets and will be provided free of charge until Jan. 31, 2005. Beginning in February, customers will be charged 5 British pounds ($8.90) per month for each of the Sky Mobile TV packs.
