Garmin Adds XM Features To Unit
Garmin International Inc. will offer GPS automotive units with XM Satellite Radio capabilities, the companies announced Oct. 31.
The portable Streetpilot 2730 will combine GPS capabilities with XM Navtraffic, weather and radio features. The unit can calculate the best route for a driver to use and display the map on a 3.8-inch screen. The screen also can display weather data for more than 2,000 locations and forecasts for 162 cities. The unit also is equipped with an MP3 player.
The unit is expected to be available in the fourth quarter for a retail price of $1,199. The XM features are offered for $16.94 per month with a one-time activation fee.
The XM features also will be offered as additional options for the Streetpilot 7200 and 7500 models, both of which will be available in December and feature 7-inch screens. The 7200 will be priced $1,499, while the 7500 will cost $1,800.
