Globecomm Systems Inc. will provide satellite communications support to the National Weather Service under a subcontract from Raytheon, Globecomm announced Sept. 15.

Under the contract, Globecomm will support the Advanced Weather Interactive Processing System, an interactive data processing system that integrates meteorological and hydrological data and all satellite and radar data.

Raytheon Information Solutions won a 10-year contract worth up to $300 million for the operations and maintenance, optional product improvements, and software maintenance and support of the system. Globecomm’s portion includes a base award of five years valued at $5 million and the subcontract could be worth more than $11 million if five years of follow-on options are exercised.
