Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) announced July 22 it is postponing the launch of the Advanced Land Observation Satellite (ALOS), which had been scheduled for later this summer, due to a problem with the Infrared Imaging Surveyor Satellite (Astro-F).

JAXA said it found a foreign object in the Astro-F’s transistor during testing. The ALOS carries the same transistor as the one in the Astro-F and both transistors were manufactured in the same timeframe. JAXA said that although the ALOS transistor is working properly, it will be replaced based on a high probability that the ALOS transistor also contains a foreign object.

JAXA did not provide a new target launch date.
