A Lockheed Martin/Northrop Grumman team announced July 6 that it completed a major system design review of the Transformational Satellite Communications System (TSat) space segment program. The system will provide secure, wideband, mobile connectivity to support network-centric operations on the battlefield. Boeing Co. made a similar announcement on July 7.

Boeing and the Lockheed Martin/Northrop Grumman team each received $500 million TSat risk reduction and system definition study contracts in January 2004. Their current efforts run through 2006, when the government will select a winner.

During the review, the team provided details on its planned architecture and design approach for the system and summarized the results of risk reduction efforts.
