Lowrance Electronics Inc., a maker of GPS user equipment, posted a 2005 third quarter profit of $6.4 million, down from earnings of $6.7 million in the same period in 2004, Lowrance announced May 31.

Revenue improved 15 percent, from $46.3 million in 2004 to $53.2 million in the 2005 third quarter, which closed April 30. Darrell Lowrance, president and CEO of the company, credited the sales increase to the introduction of new products.

The company’s backlog stood at $14.9 million as of April 30, compared to a backlog of $6.8 million a year ago.
