Callmonitor introduced three new services aimed at reducing the cost of the call to a satellite telephone from a landline phone in the United Kingdom. According to Callmonitor, the total cost of the call to an Iridium phone from a BT line has been more than 3.50 pounds ($6.40) per minute.

The new services include:

  • Satphonedial: Users call a special U.K. premium rate number to connect it to an Iridium, Thuraya or Inmarsat phone and pays 1.5 pounds ($2.74) per minute.
  • Sat-Call global scratch card service: Users purchase prepaid calling cards that offer saving of up to 50 percent compared to regular BT rates.
  • Corporate services: Callmonitor can configure office phones to automatically route calls to satellite phones to provide the company’s lower rates. Callmonitor said companies would save more than 1 pound ($1.83) per minute.
