Euro1080 announced it would be screening the finals of the Queen Elizabeth Music Competition on its first channel, HD1, this week. The competition, which has been running for about 60 years, remains a highly coveted event amongst talented young musicians in the United Kingdom.

Euro1080, which started activities in January 2004 for satellite and cable viewers across Europe, hopes to fuel the demand for high-definition service by screening a number of events. Euro1080 will launch its second HD channel, HD2, in the middle of this year.
