NASA Satellite Launch Delayed
After weather-related postponements last week, a technical problem has caused the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) to delay the launch of the NOAA-N polar-orbiting environmental satellite for the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA).
According to NASA, after a launch attempt on May 12, a vent hose in the launch vehicle broke loose possibly causing contamination of the payload. Samples must be taken from NOAA-N to ensure any possible contaminants do not exceed allowable limits.
NASA said the launch will occur no earlier than 6:22 a.m. EDT on May 20 from Vandenberg Air Force Base in California. The launch window will be open for 10 minutes.
NOAA-N will collect data about Earth’s surface and atmosphere for NOAA’s long-range climate and seasonal outlooks, including forecasts for El Nino and La Nina.
