Starchaser Unveils New Rocket Engine
Starchaser Industries unveiled its new Churchill Mk3 liquid rocket engine May 11.
With a design thrust of 33,000 pounds, it is the largest engine built in the United Kingdom in more than 30 years, the company said. The engine, which uses a combination of JetA1 aviation fuel and cryogenic liquid oxygen, is intended to power a new generation of rockets that will provide low-cost satellite launches and space tourism flights from a site in New Mexico.
“We plan to open the frontier of space using British engineering and design expertise,” Steve Bennett, CEO of Starchaser and director of the Space Technology Laboratory at Salford University, said in a statement.
