Eumetsat, the European Organization for the Exploitation of Meteorological Satellites, is continuing to work together with its North American counterpart, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), to improve weather forecasts. Eumetsat announced that an instrument it has developed, which measures atmospheric water vapor will be launched into space on board the NOAA-N polar orbiting satellite.
The instrument, Microwave Humidity Sounder, can determine vertical atmospheric humidity profiles, by measuring the water vapor at different heights in the atmosphere. These data will be used in Numerical Weather Prediction models to improve weather forecasts.
