MultiChoice, the digital satellite pay-TV operator in Africa, announced a new music channel set to launch on its DStv platform. The channel, which will focus primarily on Afrikaans music related programming, is in response to market research that revealed a strong demand for more local music programming.
The MultiChoice channel, which has not yet been named, will launch in early July and will be aimed at 16- to 28-year old age group.
Linda Vermaas, MultiChoice GM for content said, “Our music channel additions to the DStv Bouquet are informed by solid and independent market research, which has taught us that the popularity of Afrikaans music has crossed language and cultural boundaries in South Africa. We are confident that we will address a substantial viewer gap with the addition of an Afrikaans music channel aimed at the younger market.”
