Bruce Churchill, president of DirecTV Latin America, believes the satellite pay-TV operator is unlikely to see much of a competitive threat from telcos in Latin America in terms of IPTV services. Churchill also is confident that the satellite TV proposition will be a hit with consumers across the region versus cable TV offers.

“You are talking to someone that is skeptical about how the telcos will be in the United States with this,” Churchill told Satellite Today. “With that caveat, I am even more skeptical that there will be a big push in Latin America. Most of them are almost monopolies as in the case of Mexico. In other cases, companies are not well funded. I do not see that as a huge competitive threat in the near term.”
