SpaceX Receives Air Force Launch Contract

Space Exploration Technologies Corp. (SpaceX) won a $100 million contract to provide launch services to the U.S. Air Force, the company said.

Under the indefinite delivery/indefinite quantity contract from the Space and Missile Systems Center, SpaceX will provide responsive small spacelift launch services using its Falcon 1 launch vehicle, which is under development. The contract, which runs through April 2010, calls for the vehicle to be available for a mission within a year of the Air Force placing an order.

“We are grateful to the Air Force for the endorsement implied by awarding SpaceX a $100 million launch contract,” Elon Musk, CEO of SpaceX, said in a statement
