Telenor Satellite Services said it was selected as a premier service provider of Inmarsat‘s forthcoming Broadband Global Area Network (BGAN) satellite broadband service. The service, which is expected to launch later this year, will offer high-speed circuit-switched and packet data services, as well as voice telephony, via a portfolio of small, lightweight user terminals.

Telenor Director of Public Relations Tom Surface told Satellite Today, sister publication to Satellite News, that, “this is a follow-up to our selection last year as an interconnect partner for aggregation of communications traffic to BGAN.”

Surface added that to date, Telenor has developed or expanded agreements with more than 60 percent of the international telecommunications carriers that will route traffic to BGAN terminals.
