Sky Continues Diversification Process
Sky Network Television Limited (Sky), the leading DTH operator in New Zealand is entering the games rental business in New Zealand. The satellite pay-TV operator is expanding its online DVD rental service DVD Unlimited to offer games for the Xbox, Playstation 2 and the PC. The company is positioning itself to become a leader in the entertainment rental business and generate further revenue streams away from satellite pay-TV subscriptions.
John Fellet, CEO of Sky Television commented, “In addition to the vast array of DVD’s already available, customers can now choose to have games delivered to their door. Games are an extraordinarily popular form of entertainment, and contrary to popular belief, not just the preserve of teenage boys, but men and women of all ages.”
The company joined forces with Telecom New Zealand, the leading telco in New Zealand to offer the DVD Unlimited service in October last year. Users can watch as many movies as they like with just one monthly charge. There are no late fees or due dates with the service.
