Maxwell Technologies Inc. said that Northrop Grumman Space Technology selected the Maxwell SCS750 single board computer for spacecraft control and payload data management for the National Polar-orbiting Operational Environmental Satellite System (NPOESS). NPOESS is a $6 billion multi-year program that will replace existing civilian and military weather satellites with a single national system. The first of six NPOESS satellites is scheduled for launch in 2009. The contract awarded to Maxwell is worth up to $14 million if all options on the contract are exercised.
