Sky CEO Gives Subscriber Forecast

Sky Network Television Limited (SKY) CEO John Fellet told Satellite Today that the operator needs to keep gaining about 40,000 subscribers a year to maximize profits and boost its overall position. Sky is the leading digital pay-TV operator in New Zealand with almost 600,000 subscribers. The majority of subscribers receive services via satellite.

In terms of its subscriber growth target, Fellet commented, “We are looking for 40,000 net ads in the next 12 months. We have been doing this for the last seven to eight years. We could certainly go up faster but then we would have to invest a lot more in subsidies of getting the [set-top] box into the home or programming or marketing dollars. We could certainly grow it a lot less and make much more money on a short-term basis. We view the 40,000 net gain a year as the sweet spot to drive economic value for the organization.”
