International Launch Services (ILS) halted the launch of an Atlas 5 rocket that was to carry the Inmarsat 4-F1 satellite into orbit March 10. ILS spokeswoman Fran Slimmer told Satellite Today that the reason for the delay has not yet been officially determined, but said there were indications of a problem with the flight termination system. As Satellite Today went to press on March 10, date and time for the next attempt at the launch had not been formally determined, but Slimmer said the hope was to launch the satellite on March 11. The Inmarsat 4-F1 satellite is the first satellite that will be a part of the constellation that will support Inmarsat’s forthcoming Broadband Global Area Network service.
