The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) awarded Americom Government Services (AGS), a subsidiary of SES Americom, a 10-year contract through Lockheed Martin Transportation and Security Services to support the space-based navigation services of the FAA. Americom Government Services said it would provide the necessary satellite communications resources required to ensure an increased level of service both on the ground and in the air. AGS will provide the handling of operations, maintenance, monitoring and logistics for the GEO Uplink Subsystem (GUS) Type-1 through the use of Americon’s teleport stations. The service will support the Geostationary Communications and Control Segment (GCCS) of the FAA’s Wide Area Augmentation Systems. AGS said it would interface, in partnership with Lockheed Martin, successful broadcasting of navigation messages 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The financial value of the contract was not disclosed.
