Kyodo News reported March 8 that Japan’s new multipurpose satellite entered its geostationary orbital slot at 148 degrees East a few hours ahead of schedule. The report also noted the satellite was officially named Himawari 6. That satellite replaced the Himawari 5 spacecraft, which is no longer operational. Himawari 6, which will be used for weather observation and air traffic management, was launched Feb. 26.
