ViaSat said it finalized a contract to supply its SurfBeam broadband satellite networking system to Mexico-based content and Internet applications provider Pegaso Banda Ancha for consumer Internet access services in Latin America. The initial service rollout will cover Mexico, but plans include marketing the service to all of Central and South America. The terms of the $4.9 million contract call for deliveries of the network hub and terminals.

“Through our strategic relationships with ViaSat and PanAmSat, we will be able to provide consumers with the first broadband satellite communications alternative throughout Mexico and Central and South America at very competitive prices,” Pegaso Banda Ancha General Director Javier Braun Burillo said in a prepared statement.
