Reuters reported Feb. 15 that Lockheed Martin and Raytheon Co. are planning to sell their Space Imaging remote sensing joint venture. The report cited industry analysts as the source for the sale talk, but was unable to get comment from Space Imaging, Lockheed Martin or Raytheon on that subject. Space Imaging was left out when the National Geospatial Imaging Agency issued $500 million contracts to each of its competitors, Orbimage and DigitalGlobe, for spy-quality satellite images. The report speculated that one of Space Imaging’s competitors would be the likely candidate to buy the company.
