French satellite pay-TV operator TPS enjoyed a record month in December for adding new subscribers. In December 2004, it added close to 66,000 subscribers, an increase of more than 100 percent compared to December 2003. For 2004 as a whole, the operator added 209,000 subscribers to its DTH service. The operator, which has also launched TV over DSL services has around 50,000 subscribers in this area. Overall, the operator now has close to 1.4 million subscribers for its DTH service. According to the operator, it exceeded its objectives in terms of adding new subscribers in 2004.

France is an interesting pay-TV market where two satellite pay-TV platforms, CanalSatellite and TPS compete. It is one of the few markets in Europe where there is aggressive competition between two satellite pay-TV platforms.
