Eumetsat, the inter-governmental European Organization for the Exploitation of Meteorological Satellites, continues to boost its co-operation with Eastern European states with another two key agreements, allowing Lithuania and Bulgaria countries to benefit from better meteorological data. The two countries have signed Cooperating State Agreements and will now both be able to benefit from faster and comprehensive images made available by Eumetsat’s Meteosat 8 satellite. Both agreements need to be formally ratified by the Lithuanian parliament and the Bulgarian National Assembly, respectively.

In terms of how the two countries will benefit, Bulgaria’s National Institute of Meteorology and Hydrology will use Eumetsat data for operational and research activities in meteorology and hydrology. In Lithuania, The Lithuanian Hydro-Meteorological Service (LHMS), part of the Ministry of Environment of the Republic of Lithuania will benefit from Eumetsat data.
