A new technology developed by ARINC Inc. and Telenor that would allow users of GSM mobile phones to make calls during the in-flight portion of airline travel. The service, ARINC/Telenor Mobile Connectivity, uses Inmarsat equipment already on planes to facilitate the calling ability.

The service sounds great on paper, but whether airlines will take this service up and possibly forgo the revenue generated from the in-seat telephones that are in use now in favor of offering this service as a value-add to passengers remains to be seen.
