      • Gilat Satellite Networks LLC [GILTF] reported revenues of $64.8 million and a net loss of $200,000 for the third quarter ended Sept. 30. The numbers are an improvement compared with the same period one year ago, when the company reported revenues of $44.6 million and a net loss of $4.2 million. Gilat said the third- quarter loss for 2004 includes an impairment of long-lived assets of $2.2 million.
      • El Segundo, Calif.-based DirecTV Group [DTV] lifted its third-quarter 2004 revenues 20 percent to $2.86 billion, compared with the same period last year. On the downside, the company sustained a third-quarter operating loss of $1.55 billion, compared to an operating profit of $8 million during the same quarter last year. A key reason for the change is a $903 million, non-cash, after-tax impairment charge due to the write-down of Spaceway assets.

The DirecTV satellite television service amassed more than 1million new owned and operated subscribers during third-quarter 2004 to mark a 33-percent jump from the same quarter a year ago.
