Sirius Passes 500,000-Subscriber Mark

By Staff Writer | July 14, 2004

Sirius Satellite Radio [SIRI] officials said the company, at the close of business July 13, had 500,749 subscribers. It now is on track to amass one million subscribers by the end of the year.

Sirius, which launched its service on a regional basis in February 2002 and nationwide in August 2002, took longer to reach the 500,000-subscriber milestone than did its competitor XM Satellite Radio [XMSR]. XM went live with its nationwide service in November 2001, and it

hit the 500,000-subscriber mark on April 14, 2003, an indication that Sirius continues to be overshadowed by XM.
