By Staff Writer | June 29, 2004

EADS Astrium has announced it has delivered the Amazonas satellite to Baikonur, Kazakhstan, for launch at the end of July. The satellite will operate in geostationary orbit, at the 61 degrees W orbital position over the Amazon basin. The satellite is a cornerstone of Hispasat‘s Latin America strategy as the operator hopes to drive increased revenues from the region.

Amazonas will provide both fixed and broadcast communications services through 32 simultaneous operational transponders in Ku-band and 19 simultaneous operational transponders in C-band, over a 15-year mission lifetime.
