International Launch Services (ILS) reported the Intelsat IS-10-02 satellite was launched into orbit successfully from the Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan yesterday at 6:27 p.m. EDT on a Proton M launch vehicle.

The IS-10-02 satellite ultimately will be positioned at 359 degrees East longitude. According to Intelsat, the spacecraft carries 70 C-band and 36 Ku-band transponders. The Ku- band transponders will cover Europe and the Middle East, supporting a number of corporate and broadcast applications. The C-band capacity will provide services to customers in South America, Europe, Africa, and portions of Asia and North America. Telenor Broadcast Holdings AS owns approximately 50 percent of the Ku-band transponders through its Telenor Satellite Broadcasting subsidiary.
