BAE Systems garnered a $20 million contract from the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) to design a new atmospheric-sounding/coastal water- imaging instrument. The company is one of three enterprises chosen to design such a device, and NASA then will choose one to be built and installed on its Geostationary Operational Environmental Satellites. The instrument, called the hyperspectral environmental suite, will sense from orbit the temperature and water-vapor profiles in the Earth’s atmosphere as well as monitoring the world’s coastal environments.
