ORBIMAGE Wins $27.6 Million ClearView Contract

      Dulles, Va.-based ORBIMAGE, a remote sensing company that emerged from Chapter 11 bankruptcy court protection Dec. 31, 2003, received a 22-month ClearView contract worth at least $27.6 million to provide high-resolution imagery to the U.S. government’s National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency (NGA). The company became the third industry recipient of a ClearView contract.

      The first two ClearView contracts were awarded by the NGA in January 2003 to two Colo.-based companies, Space Imaging LLC and DigitalGlobe. Space Imaging won the biggest contract, totaling $120 million for three guaranteed years, with two additional one-year extensions possible. DigitalGlobe gained a $72-million, three-year pact, with the possibility of two additional one-year extensions. ORBIMAGE’s contract could be extended for as many as two years.
