EchoStar Communications [Nasdaq: DISH]has agreed to purchase 8PSK technology from Broadcom [Nasdaq: BRCM], an Irvine, Calif.-based provider of silicon-based products, for its DISH network receivers. Financial terms were not disclosed. Broadcom’s 8PSK is a modulation and coding technology that increases information throughput by 35 percent in a given bandwidth without increasing power requirements, according to Broadcom. This enables EchoStar to provide more channels and services using current DISH antennas.
